What Are You Wearing?

Confession: I am a sucker for marketing. If someone packaged it prettily, or put nice words onto it, I likely have it or want it. Retail therapy too easily becomes my "go-to" when I'm feeling particularly crummy. Not to mention, it feels fabulous to wear a great outfit. If enough of your wardrobe is relatively new, you're never bored with it.

I've tried going cold turkey, and it does not work. I won't get anything for a couple months and then I'll go on a shopping spree. As such, I'm going to work on a new approach: moderation. We'll see how it goes. Coupled with this new approach, I'm going to focus on improving my character.

It is so easy to fall into the trap of believing that my external appearance is the only thing that determines my beauty.

Yes, having a put together appearance can be very valuable and I would never discourage anyone from developing their own personal style.

The tricky part becomes keeping sight of what is important.

Your image becomes worthless when people discover ugliness within you.

I often find that when people ask me whether my friends are good looking, I have trouble answering them. When you get to know someone, and love who they are, it's hard to tell if they are physically attractive or not. They become beautiful to you because of who they are, not how they look.

I hope to refocus my efforts as the new year approaches. I want to get back on track and focus on behavior that is compassionate, kind, humble, gentle and patient

What are the qualities that you find most beautiful?

Do you get caught up with your physical appearance?

If you don't, what distracts you from the things that are important in life?

Money? Popularity? Strength? Intelligence?

Today, I Will be Happy

I am 99% positive

 (through self diagnosis of course)

that I have seasonal depression.

I woke up to the gray rainy skies this morning and it took every bit of determination I had to get out of bed. Because we have had a week of this nonsense, I made a decision today. I am going to do everything I can think of to make today happy. I refuse to get stuck in the mulligrubs today.
For some reason rainy days are never Noah and Allie glamorous...
So here are some things that made me laugh or make me smile for some reason or another. Hopefully they will help you combat the mulligrubs as well.

Post on my friends fb:
"I wasn't THAT drunk" "Dude, you took my parakeet, threw it at my piggy bank and yelled ANGRY BIRDS"

Yesterday, I mailed a note and a present to a friend. I love creating these little packages and anticipating their happiness when they get them. Getting mail is the best isn't it?!

This weekend I'm going to the Annapolis Boat Show and Sunday in the Country (an all day music festival that I go to every year). Both days I'm going to be outside all day, so when I saw this:
I was super relieved and happy that this weather isn't going to last forever!!

I put on my boots today and my broken toe is healed enough that they didn't totally kill my feet!

My Itunes was on shuffle and this song came on. It instantly brightened my mood.

Last but absolutely not least - tomorrow is Friday and I have a fun weekend ahead of me!

What has brightened your day today?

Who was your First Crush?

Who was your first crush? Were you little? Do you even remember? There was a little boy who lived near us when I was super little. His name was Joseph Patrick Henry. I think we may have even been born in the same hospital on the same day. He's the first boy I remember meeting and let me tell you, I was smitten. Who knows where he is now!

Crushes can be so much fun! You get giddy when your phone lights up, thinking it might be them.

You put extra time into your appearance just in case you happen to run into them. You find yourself daydreaming when you're supposed to be doing other things. You pick out outfits you'd love to wear (like this awesome dress that Emily modeled over at Cupcakes & Cashmere)!

Some crushes are meant for action and others are clearly not!

That person you saw while standing in line was super attractive...well, until you heard them talk.

Sometimes it's nice to just enjoy the feeling of a crush without pursuing anything and other times you get completely swept off your feet.

Are you the type to crush on celebs? I tend to avoid that, unless of course Matthew McConaughey is in question.

China Food & Vino

Last night I got to hang out with my friend Jilly. Weeknights that aren't consumed with school, work, or homework have been pretty rare recently. It's so nice to have friends who are up for a midweek date in yoga pants and glasses.
I came to a conclusion a while back, and recently life has reinforced it. There are friends who can pick up exactly where they left off, no matter how much time passes in between visits. These friends are the friends who are there when you need them; who love you when life is crazy busy and you neglect them. I've concluded  these friends deserve a little extra love when you have a minute to spare. So, to those of you I've neglected recently, I love you and when I have a minute to spare, expect something fun.

Just thought I'd share some things that have inspired/made me happy me this week:

Today I decided...

Today I decided....

  1. I would like to become a talk show host like Elisabeth on The View when I grow up. (Any ideas on how to get there)?
Elisabeth Hasselbeck
2. Light weight sweaters are the best invention for early fall
Summerby Sweater - JCREW
3. My house is in need of a serious deep cleaning - when you can't find your kitten in your piles of laundry, it's time.
4. Sinks should always have that thingie that blocks the drain (I lost a dangly earring down the sink today...any ideas for fetching it?)
5. I would like to read the new book about Lincoln that Bill O'Reilly wrote. Everyone keeps talking about it and apparently, although very controversial it was really well written.
Killing Lincoln
What did you decide today?
