Summer Escape from the City

Who's ready for weekend time?

I love summer weekends more than most. Have you ever heard that old song "Summertime Blues?" When I was younger, I never could understand it. How could anyone not like summertime? All of my summers were spent outdoors at the pool. All day every day. How could anyone ever be sad in the summer?

And then real life started. And I moved to a city. And every summer day wasn't spent at the Landing...

So now, whenever I can, I spend my weekends like this:

What are your weekend plans?

Adventures

Today, I can barely walk. We're going to the Bahamas for my birthday, and I made Chris promise to make me exercise this weekend. I sincerely regret my decision. I am NOT a runner. Saturday, we went on a long run and Sunday, we did a shorter run followed by climbing the steps on Federal Hill repeatedly. Needless to say, I'm in a bit of pain. I'm sure one day I'll appreciate it, but today is not that day.

Chris and I spent as much of the weekend outside as was possible. It was gorgeous out. We grilled, did projects around the house, ventured over to the Eastern Shore to visit my aunt's antique shop and visited a quaint little town, Rock Hall, where Chris' family used to keep their boat.

My sisters and I all got together for a photo shoot last week for my mom. My younger sister, Suzannie, left to spend the summer in England the day before Mother's Day, so we wanted to put together some pictures for my mom before she left. I think they turned out pretty well. Downtown Annapolis has lots of fun places for pictures. Next time I am going to avoid white pants though. I found myself hovering awkwardly to avoid sitting on dirty surfaces. Oh well!

We all got our acts together, which is a feat in and of itself. My mom was thrilled when we gave her the framed pictures. She has no recent pictures of us and I think she really liked these.

What did you do for Mother's Day? Did you get to enjoy any of this sunshiney weather?

I'm loving the fact that it feels like summer. Summer weekends are by far my favorite.

Today, I Will be Happy

I am 99% positive

 (through self diagnosis of course)

that I have seasonal depression.

I woke up to the gray rainy skies this morning and it took every bit of determination I had to get out of bed. Because we have had a week of this nonsense, I made a decision today. I am going to do everything I can think of to make today happy. I refuse to get stuck in the mulligrubs today.
For some reason rainy days are never Noah and Allie glamorous...
So here are some things that made me laugh or make me smile for some reason or another. Hopefully they will help you combat the mulligrubs as well.

Post on my friends fb:
"I wasn't THAT drunk" "Dude, you took my parakeet, threw it at my piggy bank and yelled ANGRY BIRDS"

Yesterday, I mailed a note and a present to a friend. I love creating these little packages and anticipating their happiness when they get them. Getting mail is the best isn't it?!

This weekend I'm going to the Annapolis Boat Show and Sunday in the Country (an all day music festival that I go to every year). Both days I'm going to be outside all day, so when I saw this:
I was super relieved and happy that this weather isn't going to last forever!!

I put on my boots today and my broken toe is healed enough that they didn't totally kill my feet!

My Itunes was on shuffle and this song came on. It instantly brightened my mood.

Last but absolutely not least - tomorrow is Friday and I have a fun weekend ahead of me!

What has brightened your day today?

Saturday Mornings

What does your ideal Saturday morning look like?

Do you pull a pillow over your head and stay tucked under the covers as long as possible, trying not to wake up?

Do you wake up with the sun and grab a warm drink on your way to do chores?

Do you enjoy the quiet before everyone else gets up and starts moving around?

Are you one of those people that curls up on the couch and watches cartoons or whatever you can find?

Do you make a huge elaborate brunch?

Do you read a book?

Once, I lived in a house of 10,

Yes, 10 girls

The best part of Saturday mornings was stumbling sleepily into a room and crawling into bed with whoever hadn't gotten up yet. Pretty soon, there were at least half of us curled up in whatever unclaimed space we could find. All of us recounted our evenings, laughed a lot, woke up slowly, and tried to find motivation to go to brunch.

What will you be doing this Saturday morning?
