Day 9: Two Songs

These songs have been on my mind a lot recently:

Oh Hey, NashVegas!

Chris' flight to Nashville was delayed on Friday night. He missed his connecting flight by only 10 minutes! He could see the flight at the gate and they wouldn't let him board because they had just closed the doors. 

I felt awful; he was stuck in the Chicago airport overnight. 

We ended up having a great weekend though. 

He took me to the Opry, and I got to see performances by Charley Pride, Love and Theft and Holly Williams (Hank Jr.'s daughter), just to name a few! 

Oh, and I got new boots!   

Here are some of my favorites from our adventure! 

I may or may not have had way too much fun with the Instagram app on Chris' phone. 

It's time to get a real camera!!

 The South definitely proved to be a culture shock! 

The restaurant served our delicious barbecue (I've not had better!) on styrofoam plates with individually wrapped plastic ware. The cups were even styrofoam. 

Maryland may be south of the Mason-Dixon, but I can't think of many places up here that could get away with all of that waste! 

(Okay, St. Mary's County and a few places on the shore might be an exception)

In any of our cities though, people would boycott it! 

Chris got ribs and I got a beef brisket sandwich. Both were delicious beyond belief and we sampled all of the available sauces. My favorite was the tangy Carolina sauce.

He caught a pic of me wasting all of those leftovers after I had gotten too full to eat anymore! 

We found that the large places on Broadway, like the Cadillac Ranch, were very "NashVegas" (thanks for the term Mr. Vest!). The best music we stumbled upon was in the Full Moon Saloon midday. 

Then in the evening, on 5th Ave at Wild Bill's, we managed to find Crystal Sands performing with Tim Scott. 

I completely fell in love with them. 

AND, come to find out, she's a Maryland girl too! 

Tim Scott kept breaking guitar strings all night long, and it turns out, he proposed to her with one of his broken guitar strings turned into a ring. Isn't that romantic? 

We tried leaving for a bit to go dancing. I LOVE to dance and we had so much fun, but even that couldn't keep me away from their music!

Within a couple hours we were right back at Wild Bill's. They were so excited to see us come back too! It was such an intimate setting that they were able to talk and joke with everyone in the bar all night. I think that may have been my favorite part of the trip!

There were a bunch of old abandoned buildings, like this one, scattered throughout the downtown area. Buildings like these fascinate me. I want to know what forced them out of business or persuaded them to move. I want to know who worked there, and what their lives looked like. What did the town look like when they worked there?

Isn't it magnificent?
